The North Eastern Council has been allocating funds for Assam since its inception. At present there are 27 number of projects in Assam implemented by 15 number of different departments. The Union Cabinet approved earmarking of 30% of “NEC’s allocation of new projects” under the existing schemes for focused development of deprived areas : deprived / neglected sections of society and emerging priority sector in North Eastern States. Villages/Blocks have been identified in Karbi Anglong / West Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao has been identified as under 30% component during 2021-22 and the fund will be provided directly to the Council.
As per NEC guidelines 2020 the funding pattern has changed and NEC schemes have now become Central Sector Schemes on 100% funding by Government Of India. However the ongoing projects under the Scheme of NEC: Special Development Projects with existing funding pattern of 90:10 will continue through the State treasury.
NEC has released 4.99 cr for the state of Assam during 2021 under the Scheme “Scheme of North Eastern Council-Grants in Aid general “ for activities relating to combating Covid -19 pandemic. The NEC has also accorded in principal approval of 2Crs towards procurement of Antigen Test Kits.
