The North Eastern Council is the Nodal agency for the economic and Social Development of the N.E Region which consists of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland & Sikkim with Shillong as it Headquarter. The North Eastern Council came into being by an Act of Parliament on 1971 and started functioning in the year 1972. NEC Scheme is Central Sector Scheme i.e.100% Funding by GOI
*The Members of NEC Consists of Governor and Chief Minister of 8 N.E. States as Members.
*Transformation & Development Department is the Nodal Department for NEC matters coordinating with NEC Shillong and Line Department of Govt. of Assam.
*Priority Sector of NEC schemes are- Bamboo, Regional Tourism, Higher Education, Tertiary Health Care ( Health Education) Livelihoods, Science & Technology etc.
Based on NEC Guideline, 2023, funds are allocated under 3 components:-
*30% Component (Focused Development Component): Focused development of deprived areas, neglected sections of society, Backward Community & Block and emerging priority sectors in the North eastern States.
*42% Component: (State Normative Component): Under this component, State Government will pose project as per the priority sector with the approval of SLEC chaired by Chief Secretary.
*28% Component: (Central Agency Components): Under this components projects will be identified by NEC or any Central Agency may pose project to NEC.
