Consequent to the adoption of SDGs, Planning & Development Department has been made as Nodal Department and an SDG Cell has been constituted within the department under the overall supervision of Shri. K.V Eapen, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Planning and Development Department to co-ordinate the activities of all departments as well as to guide the departments in effective implementation of SDGs in the State of Assam.
Creation of Centre for SDGs as institution to develop itself as knowledge hub for SDGs with experienced faculty members and support staff under mentorship/guidance of two very senior IAS officers Shri Anurag Goel, IAS(Retd.), former Secretary to the Government of India and Shri Shiladitya Chatterjee, IAS (Retd.) Economist, Asian Development Bank.
Most of the SDGs relate to outcomes already accepted as desirable (including in MDGs), and are already being sought to be achieved through existing governmental programs. Hence, steps has been taken on the following:
Re-orient, re-align and re-prioritize the existing programs
Integrate, synergize and re-energize the different components of SDGs already available in State Govt’s agenda
Redefine the structures, retool the processes and rejuvenate the people.
Setting up of 10 Working Groups with a Senior Secretary to the Government of Assam as Chairman and other Departmental Secretaries being Members.
Holding seminars, workshops, conferences and training programmes for officers of the Departments for bringing about implementation strategies and plans to achieve the SDGs.
Forging partnership with Civil Societies, Corporate Houses, Academia and International Bodies like UNDP, UNICEF, WHO etc. for knowledge gathering on innovation, technology, management of change etc.
Strategy for integrating SDGs into State planning and budgeting processes.
A Task Force on Developing a Technology Platform has been constituted under the chairmanship of Shri. Anurag Goel, IAS(retired) to assist in the smooth implementation and monitoring of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the State.
